Hi, I have a serious problem, my 80GB USB hard drive has suddenly become undetectable by windows. I have a Freecom Classic Hard Drive SL, I was using it fine yesterday, I came home from school turned on my laptop and got a weird error message on startup, for some reason it was in German, later I translated it to be something like 'operating system failure', I got very concerned when I read it but at the time I did not know what it said, I tried a few things but eventually I unplugged the external HD and that fixed it, it booted normally and when I was logged on I plugged my hard drive back in, I then realised that windows no longer detected the hard drive. I thought maybe the 'operating system failure' message could have done this so I tried it on another computer, no error message but no hint of a working HD either. I went though device manager, nothing, I tried Freecom support, nothing, I tried Google, nothing, I then tried a different USB port, something! But sadly not much, it this it?s a USB pen and when I click on it in my computer it says 'please insert disk'. This would not be so bad if it didn?t have ALL my files on it, including coursework.
Any help would be very greatly appreciated because the next step is taking it apart (voiding warranty) and trying to hook it up inside my pc as an internal HD.
